Review of Finding Amanda (2008) by Alexander K — 07 Jan 2009
A surprisingly engaging little movie about bad choices and redemption as filtered through clear-headed, anti-sap black comedy. It features some of the best acting of either lead's career and has some deliciously sour moments.
Broderick, in particular, delivers withering insults with such tossed-off finesse that it makes you want to see him do more dark-humored entries (see also: the wonderful 'Election'). In addition, Snow taps emotional reserves I was unaware she even had.
Really, if the film had attained just the right amount of buzz, I see no reason why their names couldn't have been read on Jan. 22 as Oscar nominees. Alas, it's still a good, if slight, film with plenty going for it.
