Review of Final Girl (2015) by Shaila K — 12 May 2017
Little about this movie makes sense. The characters have no depth and Veronica seems to have no set traits. It's obvious the creators attempted to make her deadly, sexy, and purposeful, but more often than not she seems unprepared and young.
The premise is nonsense and the dialogue is a joke. The artsy filming feels really try-hard, especially considering how ridiculous the actual plot is. In the first five minutes I already had about 30 questions, which were never answered.
First, why is this trained killer recruiting a little girl to train for seven years when he could just kill the targets himself? How did a bunch of high school aged kids kill William's family over seven years ago when they would have been around 10? Who exactly is William? An assassin? An agent of some government organization? Why would he cuddle with his naked trainee who he raised from a child? Why would she not be able to use a gun? What woman would go into the forest with three men she just met in a full evening gown? These are just some preliminary questions that don't even begin to address the major flaws with this movie's premise.
