Review of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2005) by Timothy Joseph B — 28 Aug 2010
When I was watching this movie I couldn't help thinking: unbelievable. It really is a great movie, I don't care what other critics say, I had never heard of the existence of Final Fantasy VII the game but I just decided to watch the movie after seeing the trailer of the new game Final Fantasy XIII. And my god how amazing it is. Let's see if I can convince you by looking at different aspects of the movie. (by the way I watched the extended blu-ray version).
The story:
This movie is told in a very interesting way. The opening scene shows a man in a wheelchair and some guy holding a ball talking. You don't understand the conversation but later on in the movie this scene blends in with the movie. It is about some guys trying to organize a reunion with their mother and they think the main character has their mother. I think the story is good because it shows how cruel the world can be when it comes to surviving. You really care about the infected children and the movie can sometimes even hurt you emotionally because it is so realistic. Although I have to say that this is a hard movie to watch I think you have to watch this movie at least twice to really get the story.
The animation:
It is the best ever, it is just amazing how they could have made this in 2005! that's 5 years ago and it still is the most beautifully animated movie yet. The hairs, the infected people, the monsters, the fights, the chase scenes it is almost like watching real people but then better because it's animated. I love it.
The characters:
This isn't the best aspect of the movie: the main character doesn't show very much emotion and some of the guys really look alike. The bad guys on the other hand are great too see how sick the are and how they manipulate children is very cool. It is kinda weird with this movie some of the characters are very well done and show a lot of emotion but some just don't...
The action:
The fights, the chase scenes, the children getting taken over by the bad guys it is all so quick and still easy to follow. I think thats the best about the fact that it is animated because of the smooth quick animations it is all very well followable. It is very over the top and contains a lot of eye-candy but really fits the story so I think that's a good thing.
Overall:
If you like animated movies then this is a must see, if you like Final Fantasy this is a must see, if you like movies with great story this is a must see. I think you should give it a try even if you haven't played the Final Fantasy games (which I haven't).
