Review of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001) by Keenan S — 22 Aug 2011
People mainly seem to bitch and moan about this film because it has little in common with the game franchise (Even though the games didn't follow each other, so what's the problem with the story?).
People also say that this film is nothing more than eye candy (It definitely is the best-looking CGI animated film I've ever seen), and while that is a fair criticism since the story could have been more developed, I had a great time watching this sci-fi film because I loved the characters, the music, the story despite some flaws, the interesting alien creatures, and the intense action scenes.
It's a highly underrated film that doesn't deserve the slandering it has received, and I urge you to at least give it a chance if you love sci-fi films because there's a good chance you'll come away surprised by realizing it's not that bad.
Hopefully years from now it'll go on to become a cult classic and get better attention.
