Review of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001) by Vinny N — 29 Oct 2009

As a long-time video game fan, I was in awe of this movie when it first came out, the trailer I mean. The main drawback of this movie is that it is actually titled as a 'Final Fantasy' movie when it has little to nothing to do with the legendary game series.

However looking at it again on the DVD release I was actually surprised at how well I enjoyed it. The story is quite original and the tone of the film is genuine heartfelt suspense. If you can at least mentally drop the 'Final Fantasy' from the title and simply refer to it as 'The Spirits Within'; you just might find yourself enjoying it too.
