A gimmick film that I suppose appeals to audiences, hence the sequels. That said, I was terribly bored throughout. The idea of deaths being centerpieces originated back to the Giallo horror films from Italy.
Bava and Argento popularized this whole concept but they often did it in a much more operatic, expressionistic and compelling way. It was about a nightmarish transcendence. Final Destination is about cheap thrills.
The ending is so ridiculous and the characters are tedious. Plus, Hollywood horror films in the past ten years so often look the same. So polished, visually uninteresting and certainly not scary.
