Review of Final Destination (2000) by Joseph H — 18 Apr 2012
12 years since this film came out and there's been another 4 Final Destinations, all of which are the same in plot, the way the film is structured and same with character development. I watched these films in the order of 4,3,5,2 and now 1. So I knew what to expect with this film.
Nonetheless I really enjoyed it, the deaths are intense and deeply graphic. It's not a scary film and doesn't have much dark humour, but strong characters and good pace this death ride is well worth the trip. Ali Larter is just excellent, she could single handedly run this series of films. I actually felt sorry for her character as she is quite lonely and content, but there's plenty of scenes where death looms near her. For the year 2000 the effects look great, nothing looks fake or cheesy, and the plane explosion premonition is frightening. The best death is the teacher who gets impaled by pieces of computer in her neck, she then gets cut by falling knives and finally her house blows up, just to put her out of pain.
Final Destination delivers all the gory thrills, inventive deaths and fun you could ever want, all of the films in the franchise are great, apart from number 4.
