Review of Final Destination (2000) by Lucas Lima B — 09 Sep 2013
The first in the trilogy, and probably the best. At the time it was truly original - something perhaps forgotten by the sequels. The plane crash at the beginning, plus the "bus" death make sure you're never too comfortable watching this film.
Anyone could die at any minute, in any number of unexpected ways. This is a genius device, which encourages the viewer to look out for clues as to how death will strike. This would be used as the basis for the later films, to great effect.
I give this 4.5 stars. Perhaps not truly frightening, but very original and it has great execution.
