A real surprise, that by the end, will somehow have you sympathising for the most detestable 'anti-hero' in recent film history. Filth is a very appropriate title. This film starts dark and disgusting, then gets more so. But behind the dirt, as the film delves more and more into the demented soul of it's main character you'll be surprised to find - there is a heart in there.

No punches are held, and this made me nervous at the start, but this is not just shock value theatre, the scattered horrible acts and events ultimately tie together in a hugely rewarding way. This film just keeps getting better, and the pay-off in the final scene is just perfect.

And don't trust the hype about McAvoy, coz whatever they've been saying, his portrayal of the drug, sex and alcohol addicted, thrill-junkie police inspector in this film is even better than it. An award worthy performance if ever one has jumped out at me. GIVE THIS MAN A BAFTA! This is truly his film, and the plot entirely hangs on McAvoys performance, so thank eff he's so great.

Filthy, emotionally effecting, hugely entertaining and, dare I say it, hilarious. Not for the faint hearted or those looking for a conventional film. But this had me cringing and gasping; with my hand over my mouth and grinning from ear to ear in equal measure. I left the cinema speechless and excited to have a new film to add to my all time favourites. I did not see that coming!
