Review of Filth (2013) by Roland H — 26 Apr 2014
Whoa.
Enjoyed "The Bad Lieutenant" with Harvey Keitel? This may be right up your alley.
Prefer a tale less surreal and perhaps with even a hint of intertwined human redemption?
You may want to stick to Disney's latest, "Frozen", passing on this hour and half of wincing at James McAvoy's expert and convincing portrayal of the least attractive possibilities in the human condition, Ã la cocaine and scotch.
Initially comedic, it soon spirals into documenting a discomfiting view of a head-on collision with personal demons, freezing the grin on my face into wide eyed disbelief I'm unable, or unwilling, to look away from.
Credible performances throughout by a cast of recognizable players that will having you wondering what exactly you've seen them in dozens of times before.
This is not the romantic Scotland of yore but a modern telling of urban and mental decay that could be realized in any city, anywhere.
I know a good shrink, once the credits roll.
Lemme know.
