Review of Filth (2013) by Sam D — 02 May 2014
A tour de force performance from Macavoy, who is fast becoming one of my favorite actors.
A lot of people say this isn't funny enough to be a comedy, and not interesting enough to be a mystery, but the truth is it's neither, it's a character study, and a study of the environment that creates such a character. And a frighteningly fascinating study it is!
As the name suggests, Filth delves into the seedy, unwanted yet ever-present parts of life. It lays them before you honestly and brutally, but with enough of a twinkle in its eye that you laugh almost as much as you cry, cringe and possibly vomit.
I can't remember being this captivated in a long, long time.
