Review of Filth (2013) by Nathan M — 24 Aug 2014
I did not find this as fun as many other people did. I enjoyed McAvoy's performance, and much of the style. But it was so aggressively committed to the theme of its title that it was overwhelming. The filth and vulgarity in this film didn't seem to serve much purpose other than beating you over the head with how terrible the protagonist was.
I didn't find anything redeeming or attractive about this character. It was fun for a little while to watch him tear apart his life, but not for very long. If you want to see something in the same vein, check out Dom Hemingway.
