Review of Filth (2013) by Mic L — 15 Sep 2015
From the 1st minute "Filth" comes out and grabs you by the balls and it doesn't let go until the credits role up at the end. James McAvoy's performance as the thoroughly depraved Edinburgh detective Bruce Robertson is nothing short of spectacular and only goes to prove further that McAvoy has some serious acting chops that personally, put him up there in terms of talent with his X-Men co-star Michael Fassbender.
The film tries it's hardest to show you how truely horrible a person this man is and it succeeds but McAvoy's performance and the range of emotions he displays convincingly make you feel for this damaged man and in a weird way understand him.
Supported by some terrific performances from Eddie Marsan and Jamie Bell to name a few, Filth delivers exactly what you want from a book adaptation of the great Irvine Welsh and also manages to surpass expectations.
