Review of Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool (2017) by Richard S — 30 Aug 2018
The film is based upon Peter Turner's memoir who was a struggling young actor from Liverpool when he met eccentric Hollywood actress Gloria Graham in the late 70's. From here he developed a relationship with the actress that grew so strong that she chose to spend her final days with him in Liverpool rather than her family back home in California.
The best thing about the film was definitely Annette Benning who was absolutely superb as the fading actress still holding onto the glamour that gave her fame in the 1950's, I found her role completely captivating.
It's not the cheeriest of films but a decent character study and it was funny to be able to spot the Liverpool locations they were also trying to pass off as London.
