Review of Fighting (2009) by William Y — 17 Apr 2010
I remember seeing the trailer for this film and I thought that looks a film to watch. Well it wasn't really and didn't live up to the trailer. The only reason I am giving this film 3 stars is because of Terrence Howard ( who plays Harvey ).
Harvey is a wheeler and deeler, mainly dealing in Broadway tickets etc, but has aquaintances/friends in high places that hold underground fights. He see's Shawn Macarthur ( Channing Tatum) fight one day and sets about offering/trying to get him a fight for a sizeable amount of money with further fights and bigger purses promised if he keeps winning.
Harvey is played brilliantly by Howard, giving the watcher of the film the feeling of ' is this guy genuine, or is he just in it for himself and is he going to take Tatum ( MacArthur ) for a ride and rip him off.
So it's 3 stars for Howards superb acting, if he wasn't in this film then it would have been sunk.
