Review of Fighting (2009) by Jason P — 26 Jan 2011
Fighting is better then you might think thanks in large part to its leading role, Channing Tatum and supporting Terrence Howard. Both give a sort of honest, realistic performance of what it might look like out on the streets of NYC doing what they do.
The fights aren't glamorous or overdone but do bring with them a sort of no holds bar presence without the gloss. The whole underdog story (a man from the streets who finds himself just struggling to get by is paired with another struggling soul with an eye for opportunity.
What is good about this pairing is that neither character is played as conflicted. The movie is a story of a partnership that together finds its way from the lowly beginnings. And it makes for a nice, feel good story.
And that really is the testament of this film. For a film about fighting it really is a nice, clean story that is easy to watch, fairly enjoyable and keeps from being offensive while still keeping a bit of an edge.
