Review of Fight Club (1999) by Eric S — 12 Apr 2014
'Fight Club' is an outstandingly funny and well-constructed film, with a certain Baudelairean beauty about it; nevertheless, the message it sends is not at all helpful. It simply endorses the cult of violence and rejects all that is ordered and good about the liberal world.
Is it anarchism? Is it communism? Is it anarchism perverted with a chauvinist tendency? Or is it just a gross piece of masculine self pity, the shrieking of a male chauvinist pig? It might get A+, or it might get a hundred lines.
On balance: 25/30.
