Do yourself a favor "free your mind!" See it! I saw it, loved it! Have seen kinkier more explicit mainstream movies than this that have shown as much and more than 50 Shades - and they are not trashed as "porn" by the media.
50 Shades is not porn by any stretch - Beautifully done - amazed that this is causing such a scandal. It's a passionate love story between consenting adults! My critique: While overall well done, it was too short, seemed be hurried at some parts - Jamie and Dakota were spot on - I frankly was worried about Dakota - seeming naive enough - she did it without seeming cheesy - or obtuse - both are very gifted actors.
- Now if they'll just let these two shine a little more in the next two installments - they can and will! I understand pacing, but this director/studio felt this was a brisk jog, instead of walking through Christian and Ana's courtship and it showed.
There was more humor than the books. Could have, Should Have capitalized on several other parts of the book that they didn't - (Example - Christian gives Ana a car - in the book, Kate looks at the car and tells Ana "he's an over the top bastard, isn't he?!" But, no, the movie has Kate telling Ana something about "being careful"! ) Also, in the book Christian mutters about Ana's VW being a "Death Trap" before he gets her a car - Much missing, including wit/comic relief!) Considering all this, still, overall - well done! A pleasant surprise.
A gentleman sitting next to me thought it was an excellent interpretation of the book. My advice for the next two installments - don't skip the key parts of the book that add so much and capitalize on what the fans love!!! (i.
E., Christian on finding out she was a virgin - it was like a high speed interpretation - I wanted what ELJ wrote, his shock - his reaction. This was a key scene in the book - suddenly it was on to the next scene!) Next time, ask a few fans who love the books to comment on the nearly finished product - we'll help with the nuances and subtle things that are missing because E.
L. James gave you the material! Her writing was genius! The story is genius - and the love making and sex is a natural, integral part of this story!
