The hype about the movie, while misplaced, is certainly not misrepresented. Unlike the book it is based on, the film is no longer mere erotica. While it obviously contains explicit scenes, they are merely complicit to the story, and are not the foundation of the plot.

Thanks both to the quality of the filmography as well as the brilliant talent of the cast, Fifty Shades of Grey has evolved from a novel of sexual deviance into a gripping tale of the struggle between unfulfilled passions and overwhelming desire.

While its suitability for family movie night may be questionable, it is without doubt a great way to spend two hours and nine minutes with your loved one or a close friend. Enjoy!
