Review of Fifty Shades of Grey (2015) by Nate J — 23 Feb 2017
This had been a movie I was dead set against watching. But as a filmmaker, I firmly believe you cannot critically analyse a piece if you've not experienced it (cue my viewing of the Twilight Saga).
I got 30 pages into the book upon it's release and has to stop, it's a dire read. Like a teenager given Microsoft Word for the first time and describing what that think sex really is.
First things first, the soundtrack is awesome. Sia, Ellie Goulding and The Weeknd make it brilliant.
The film itself is not the most terrible thing I've seen. Sure the Dominant role is all wrong and the it feels like it needs the nudity to survive, but I have genuinely seen worse. I have an understanding what BDSM and Dom/Sub roles entail and I'm not under any illusion it should look like this.
Highlight is certainly the quirky comments from Anastasia.
