Review of Fifty Dead Men Walking (2008) by Christine B — 05 Mar 2009
I was fortunate to see this film at the Kingston Canadian Film Festival and to participate in a Q&A with director Kari Skogland. As someone who has been to Belfast and to Ireland three times, I do believe that she has made a very authentic and powerful film that really hits its mark.
Jim Sturgess gives a brilliant performance as Martin McGartland and his Belfast accent is flawless. Ben Kingsley, as always, adds class to any movie and his character was actually a compilation of several different characters that McGartland interacted with.
Apparently McGartland likes the film very much and he is still in hiding today. His story is a fascinating one and this is going to be a movie for my collection.
