Review of Fifty Dead Men Walking (2008) by Paulo C — 24 Apr 2010
The true story of Martin McGartland who was recruited by British Special Branch in the 80s to infiltrate the IRA - he gained their trust and saved lives by foiling their assassination attempts. It isn't long before they start to suspect foul play and he ends up having to go on the run, and still is to this day.
The whole Northern Ireland situation is far too complicated to go into, after all, atrocities were committed on both sides, but I never really felt sorry for McGartland, I found it hard to tell whether he felt conflicted or not, and I also thought it was a slightly one-sided portrayal.
Good action sequences and some very gritty and thrilling scenes, but not a history lesson by any means.
