Review of Field of Dreams (1989) by Anna Q — 16 Feb 2013
After hearing a mysterious heavenly voice, an Iowa farmer turns his cornfields into a baseball diamond. Though the premise which promises a mixture of sports drama and fairy tale would appear to set the grounds for a gooey disaster, rarely do we see such tasteful sentimentality in films.
Field of Dreams borrows the best tricks from the old Hollywood classics to reach into the hearts of its viewers but most admirably it refuses to wallow in sloppiness and instead makes the admirable choice to be charming and even surprise the viewer with intelligent.
