Review of Field of Dreams (1989) by Wayne W — 04 Jul 2010
Somehow they managed to make something unbelievable seem real. It works. You don't have to be a sports fan or even care about the game of baseball. It's simply the forum used to tell a sweet story.
Everyone is cast perfectly. This film is magical. Even the score is memorable. Some highlights for me...James Earl Jones's speach towards the end. "People will most definitely come". The scene where Kevin Costner is face to face with his father & we don't know if the dad realizes who he is.
Costner's voice cracks as he says "Daaad". It's perfect. If you don't cry at this point you're a rock! Amy Madigan's speach about books. She's tough & eloquent at the same time.
Burt Lancaster in one of his last roles! Pure magic! Isn't this what movies are all about?
