Review of Fiddler on the Roof (1971) by Robert W — 05 Jul 2009
I live my life by a strict "no musicals" tradition (well...except for the few that I've been tricked into watching) Sound of Music was okay (although the musical numbers were pretty hokey overall). I suppose that's why I waited until I was 34 to commit to watching this one.
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. This movie was great! It had drama, humor, conflict, awesome choreography and intriguing plot elements (such as when Tevye reasons with himself..."On the other hand...").
Surprisingly (to me), I stayed awake and alert through the entire 3 hours 21 minutes of this one (that's saying a lot from the guy who snored through the main fight scene in Transformers--but that one was a bomb in my book anyway, so maybe that wasn't such a bad thing to do.).
This one goes on the highly recommend list and DVD wish list.
