Review of Fever Pitch (2005) by Jennifer X — 12 Apr 2011
Cute and the Farrellys don't mix. It's t hat dreadful combination that ruins Fever Pitch, a romantic comedy with a premise that has some promise. Jimmy Fallon is teacher Ben, a Red Sox devotee and Drew Barrymore is power exec Lindsey, not a Red Sox fanatic.
The two merely engage in a duel of who can be cuter, which turns Nick Hornby's novel, on which it was based, into putrid swill. Nothing is at stake, not even the Red Sox's season, since they ended up breaking their curse.
It's still hard to believe the Farrelly's directed this.
