Review of Fever Pitch (2005) by Annie F — 06 Sep 2010
This is one of my personal favourite rom-coms. The two leads are fresh, witty and the chemistry is believable. Drew gets away from her usual peachy-keen sweet girl stereotype to play a more offbeat, career woman, opposite a very relaxed Jimmy Fallon.
Like all rom-com's, the favourability relies on the central relationship and whether you a) like them; b) believe the romance proposition; and c) you want them to work out. This one ticks all three boxes, and the trill of the real-world events that were playing out during the filming add that little extra spark of magic.
There is a bit of a dreary patch after the inevitable 'break up' that gets a bit dull after a few watchings (yes, I do own this one on DVD) - however, it comes home with a bang, and the great chemistry between the group of friends and the comic timing of both leads keep it fresh.
