Review of Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) by Peter N — 30 Jul 2012
Perhaps the best 80's comedy ever made, Ferris Bueller's Day Off is chock-full of memorable gags, classic lines, and fun situations. One of the elements of an effective comedy is that the actors involved must have fun doing it.
This is apparent throughout the film, as Matthew Broderick shines in the title role, and clearly relishes the chance to play a witty, charismatic teenager who's just trying to enjoy the day without being bogged down by school.
Alan Ruck, Jennifer Grey, Mia Sara, and Jeffrey Jones are all memorable in their respective roles, and help make Ferris' decision to cut school feel that much more right. The only downfall to this classic film is the fact that it is extremely over-quoted and I have seen it way too many times over the years.
I almost feel like I need to take a few years off to allow some of that novelty to come back into my viewing experience.
