Review of Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) by Andrew S — 10 Apr 2013
Bueller is one of those films that is universally loved, celebrated and quoted--a timeless piece of the 80's for all to experience. I enjoyed the wit, the humor, the fun, the characters and the showcasing of Chicago, but I felt that the film may be a tad overrated.
People were shocked to hear I had never seen this Hughes picture (I'm a big Breakfast Club fan), so when I went into this screening I had high expectations. Ultimately I found an original, youthful comedy full of character and color, but I was not wow'ed as I had hoped for.
Though I recognized the film's message of life appreciation, I felt that the themes could have been fleshed out to a much higher extent, truly giving it the standard everyone holds it to.
