Review of FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992) by Lonette982 H — 11 Nov 2010
Avatar disney sytle.
Sweet fairy movie with a beautiful forest and so-touchy-feely-they're-perfect 80s songs.
A cute, bright, naive fairy named Crysta is content living in a rainforest, learning the secrets of nature and such from the oldest, most talented fairy, Magi.
Curious of the stories of humans, she's enticed by a very screwed up Bat (Robin William when his improv was funny) to journey farther out. though the bat is a comical example of animal testing she goes out anyway.
Human teen working with a lumbar team, Zak, is watched by the fairy then accidentally shrunk by her.
Zak is an ok guy, light humored, open to the insane new world. he's facinating to Crysta because of his modern slang and indifference the beauty and sensitivity of nature.
He annoys her boyfriend, Pips, who has interesting beetle-biker friends, when that NA-NANANANA-NANAN-NA-NANA-NA-NA-NAA-NA-NANAA(!) song.
Meanwhile, the lumbar team's big, ugly machine unleashes an evil pollution spirit (by Zak's unintentional doing) which wants to kill the forest for the fun of destruction. this charming monster is voiced by Tim curry!!!!
So, amazing animals with silly personas: lovely art: and the 'Dream worth Keeping' scene is so cute it melts my heart.
Kids should watch this!!!! it might have a corny dvd cover but it is a special little movie!
