Review of FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992) by Ryan V — 12 May 2012
A young rainforest fairy (Samantha Mathis) encounters a human (Jonathan Ward) who works for a logging company that's destroying her homeland. Shrunken down to fairy size, this man sees the magic of the forest in a whole new perspective.
Bonded together, this pair faces an evil pollution spirit dubbed Hexxus (Tim Curry). Ferngully preaches its eco-friendly platform with the Disney-esque formula of songs, oddball supporting characters, and saccharine romantic sequences.
It lays its message on pretty thickly, but the animation is well done and the movie's heart is in the right place.
