Review of Fences (2016) by Darren C — 03 Mar 2017
Fences.
A middle-aged, African-American man struggles to iron out his bitter past while locking horns with his teenage son in 1950s Pittsburgh.
Denzel Washington stars in and directs this stage to screen adaptation where the acting is the main focus. The setting of Fences, like most movies based on plays, gives off a claustrophobic feel and the ending comes off a bit too tidy, but it's the stellar performances of Viola Davis and Washington that give this film a massive electrical charge.
Grade: A-.
Big Al says see Fences in the theatre.
