Went in expecting one plot (1950s racism keeps the black man down) but saw an entirely different movie (a narrow-minded man's path to self-destruction). This was an extremely scary movie, and the monsters are destitution and shattered dreams and familial breakdown.
You can learn a lot about life from this movie.
