As a film that depends solely on the performances of its cast, Fences certainly delivers. Both Denzel Washington and Viola Davis give such powerful performances that it's tough not to get completely engaged in the lives of their characters.
Even though Fences rarely has a change of scenery and mainly takes place in the same locations, the dialogue is so well written and the actors are so good at their craft that you realise that the lack of background changes is for a reason.
