Review of Fences (2016) by Tim B — 13 Mar 2017
What an incredible translation from stage to screen this film is. This is as important of a film and performance as A Streetcar Named Desire or On the Waterfront. This is not a popcorn movie, but that is to be expected when we hear Denzel Washington is pouring himself into both director chair and lead role.
Strife of the every man and the true working class mixed with American history leads us to these sort of iconic roles, and the result is humbling. When we go to the movies we put ourselves in the characters shoes for a while, and these are the archetypes I find myself craving - characters that I truly believe can make us better people in understanding.
What a special film.
