Progressively disturbing and unsettling, what starts as a charming, if slightly unusual, gentleman offering to help a stranded young Irish girl, gradually unravels an intensely unhinged psychology. featuring a riveting performance from Bob Hoskins, and perfectly filmed around the industrial landscapes of the English midlands, it elevates to something of a spiritual reckoning, if not resolution, during its painstaking and on-edge ending.
