Review of Feast of Love (2007) by Michael B — 13 Mar 2008

Although it verges on melodrama in patches, the visuals are absolutely gorgeous...from the cinematography to the women. Add Morgan Freeman as the stories sage and you have a emotionally packed, highly ambitious film.

Perhaps the story tries to hard and has too heavy a hand with the third act, but I can't help but agree with the sentiments pushed. The performances are stellar and downright ballzy at times. Incredible, textural beauty coupled with a few scenes of graphic full frontal nudity and you have a questionable tonal rift.

But the sex does give this airy romantic film some much needed realism. Benton may never again reach the dramatic intensity of "Kramer vs. Kramer," but this is a worthy and beautiful attempt to likewise succeed in another genre.
