For a movie that more or less fell into the love story category; it certainly oozes off a morbid, sombre feel.

But I have to salute this movie for its attempt at portraying real life love stories. As we all know, in a functional world where actual human beings lives, love is never really as plain or simple as often depicted in the films. So in this sense, the movie is really more of a documentary of sorts rather than a make-believe world of hope and promises.

That's the thing really, the thing that didn't quite appeal to me - this movie is a mirror to the real life. Some may argue that movies should mirror life itself, but I prefer it to be more of a shadowy reflection rather than a stark mirror. When I stepped into a cinema hall, I leave my reality at the door so that I can lull myself into the dream-like world of the movie showing.

However, other than that aspect of the movie, I have to laud the refined acting of all the actors. Morgan Freeman and Jane Alexander made me wish that they're MY parents. And I also hoped that I could fall in love and be loved like the character Oscar, played by Toby Hemingway. Other than that, this movie made me want to have the same level of faith and passion in love as Greg Kinnear did in the movie, in spite of the lesbian and promiscuous ex-wives.
