Review of Feast (2005) by Patrick E — 13 Jun 2010
Feast is one of those horror/comedy films that are just pure fun from start to finish. It is essentially a cross between Tremors and Tarantino's From Dusk Till Dawn with a whole load of horror cliches thrown for fun. The story is basically the following: In a remote bar, a blood covered man bursts in to advise customers to seal the place off since a group of hungry creatures are heading right for them. Mayhem ensues when the creatures arrive as the various patrons try to stay alive. That's it and it's all we need to know!
Every single character is a horror cliche as the film helpfully points out with the aid of a fact file for each person. You know what each character is going to do and how they are going to act, or at least we think we do until the director John Gulagar has great fun killing off who we don't expect to be killed and throwing plenty of surprises into the mix. There is gore a plenty as various characters meet their untimely deaths and plenty of laughs throughout. There are also some genuine scares and great action sequences. The creature effects are not brilliant but that's to be expected in a film on such a limited budget. One standout scene involves plenty of maggots and a lot of green goo. I'll leave you to figure that one out.
Pure fun from start to finish, a perfect film to just chill out too after a hard days work.
8/10.
