Review of Fearless (2006) by Mike G — 30 Aug 2009
The "true" story of one of China's most famous and legendary fighters (albeit with a few factual liberties taken). It's a sweeping epic about a warrior who has fallen from grace and then must redeem himself of the dishonor that he has brought himself.
The dialogue often comes off as on the nose or corny but it ultimately has a good point with a lot of heart. Not Jet Li's best film but definitely an appropriate send-off to his career in Chinese cinema.
The relationship between Jet Li's character and the Japanese figher is really interesting because it feels like an attempt that the filmmakers are trying to reach out to the Japanese culture and break the cultural walls.
It's a fun movie. Both beginner and veteran viewers of martial arts films will enjoy this movie.
