Review of Fearless (2006) by Drew E — 20 Sep 2009
Shanghai, China, 1910: Humbled by foreign powers China and its people are seen as the "Sick Man of Asia". To put the final nail in the coffen the Foreign Chamber of Commerce is stageing a competition, their best fighters against China's. Only one man rises to the challenge, the founder of the Jin Wu Sports Federation Huo Yuanjia (Jet Li), who defeats his British, German and Spainish counterparts. As he prepares for his final match against the Japanese fighter he remebers his path in life from asthmatic youth, to arrogant Wushu master an arrogance that costs him dearly and his path to redemption begging in a small farming village alongside a blind woman and leading up to his present match...
An epic presentation beautifully shot that embodies Jet Li's personal philosophy of the martial arts. Here Li shows a wider range as an actor then one has come to expect from him. He is matched by Shido Nakamura (Li's Japanese opponent). An excellent film that gives voice to a philosophy and way of life.
