Review of Fearless (2006) by Charlie H — 28 Jan 2010
Artistically violent and scientifically dramatic. There is not many people who can pull off acting while doing a fight scene, Jet Li is one of the few. The setting of late 1800s and turn of the century China is very interesting and was well presented, though there were some obvious liberties taken it seems.
The pacing was very well done: slower parts were still interesting and a well welcomed break from scenes of destruction. Plot wise, it was nothing new, but a great introduction to a figure of Chinese martial arts history, and a great tale of honor and sportsmanship.
In a lot of ways this feels like the Chinese version of The Wrestler, except it was made a couple years before.
