Review of Fearless (1993) by Matt M — 16 Feb 2008
Jeff Bridges' finest performance. A movie that is great in spite of Rosie Perez and Isabella Rossellini. A film that is touching, confusing, inspiring. Jeff Bridges, who has been sleepwalking through life, is in a plane crash.
He loses the ability to fear; in fact, he loses the ability to feel. He desperately struggles through this, whipsawing between trying to jump start his emotions and losing himself in the horror and ultimate end that he so narrowly escaped.
It takes an act of love, and of faith, to rescue him from what he has become. There are parts that drag, yes, but in my opinion they build the bleakness that has become the protagonist's existence.
Whenever I want to cry, really, really hard, I watch this film. The end makes me hyperventilate every time. But in a good way.
