Review of Fearless (1993) by Steve K — 19 Aug 2008
I hadn't seen this movie since shortly after it came out, and I think that this is a movie that definitely improves with age, that is the age of the viewer. Everything that seemed to impress me about this movie ten or twelve years ago seemed minor when I watched it this time.
My friend said it was about being caought in the absolute and I probably wouldn't have understood that so well at a younger age. Isabella rossellini is great as the wife trying to find her husband ---is he still alive to her or is he dead-- and Jeff Bridges manages to keep his performance human while intimating something more than mortal.
This is a very well written movie that Peter Weir allows to develop at its own pace while still building tension through presenting a world where just enough is off kilter to let you know that there is more than meets the eye.
