Review of Fearless (1993) by Schoone!!! — 17 Feb 2009
I still feel haunted by this film. The harrowing crash scenes displayed throughout are very powerful and lead us deeper into the life, both pre and post crash, of survivor Max, played by Jeff Bridges.
Strong supporting roles by Isabella Rossellini and Rosie Perez add an insightful dimesnion into the main theme of the film, namely, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and how crash survivors, and their co-survivors and loved ones cope, or not, as the case may be.
But without getting all cliinical, this film is summed up perfectly by one of the closing lines uttered by Max to his wife......."I want you to save me".
Special mention has to be made to the soundtrack especially Gorecki`s symphony No.3 "Sorrowful Songs". Again, perfectly matched to the theme of the film.
