Review of Fearless (1993) by Larry G — 15 Jul 2010
It's been a heavy couple of days here. While The Evil Dead was a malicious and evil film, this one is mostly heavy and depressive, weighing in on the viewer with a hefty round of drama and personal turmoil.
It's about a man played by Jeff Bridges who survives a plane crash only to start losing himself in a desire to keep conquering his fears. He meets another crash survivor from the same flight, a woman who has lost her 2 year old son, and they begin a road to recovery together.
I was really expecting this to be schmaltzy and fluffed up, but really only the last scene was. The best part of this is just watching Jeff Bridges' character as he stumbles through his road to recovery; it's really fascinating.
He's a man who was previously afraid who now feels incapable to fear anything, and so he continues to test it. Fearless is a little too heavy for me, but I can't deny its power. Recommended to fans of weighty drama.
