Review of Fear of Fear (1975) by James-Masaki R — 18 Apr 2010
Fassbinder channels Douglas Sirk to make the film that really stands as a snapshot of racism, sexism, and agism in 1970s Germany. A widowed woman about 50 meets a young Arab man in a cafe, and immediately something clicks between then.
She is living alone since her children grew up, he is from Morocco barely making a living in Germany. After the two start a relationship, the couple have to deal with many setbacks from the people who can't see passed the outer layer.
