Review of Fear of Fear (1975) by Jareth S — 12 Nov 2010
This is my favorite Fassbinder film, followed by BERLIN ALEXANDERPLATZ (which is technically a 15 hour tv mini-series) and my introduction to the director's work. I love the Sirkian melodrama, the love story in the face of racism, the camera framing & movement, even some plot developments which seem to come out of nowhere. This film guaranteed that I'd eventually seek out every Fassbinder film. I'm still working on that task...
I still need to get around to seeing the Sirk film that inspired it: ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS.
