Review of Fear City (1984) by Jeff W — 13 Jun 2008
I'm not a cinephile. I look at actors, try and get into the plot, and I listen to soundtracks. I'm not a movie snob, so this may be why I really enjoyed this Abel Ferrara film when it was on my local ABC affiliate late one Sunday night.
I think this is what you call a B movie. Hell, Billy Dee Williams plays the crack detective--I think this was subsequent to his Colt .45 liquor commercials. The main idea is that some psycho is killing strippers in New York (when this sort of stuff was almost believable).
Tom Berenger runs the stripper agency, and who doesn't have a soft spot for Berenger? If nothing else, watch it for the music. D-Train, Sharon Redd (RIP), and David Johansen (of The New York Dolls) are featured.
