Review of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) by Rudy L — 30 Jul 2011
Duke's trip to Vegas begins with a trip. If you have read the book then this film will feel real. There can be more appreciation for what was done. Depp does an amazing job immersing himself as Thompson/Duke.
In quick shots of Depp you feel like you are instead seeing the real Thompson acting out his trip. For all the chaos that this film presents, as usual, Gilliam remains in control and manages to make some sort of explanation out of this mess.
Seeing this adaptation of a Thompson classic leaves me on my toes waiting for the next one. (Let's see if Depp can pull it off again.).
